Manufactured, certified and rigorously tested, FP cables undergo a range of fire tests to help protect both lives and property against fire. For common building applications, cables must meet minimum 30-minute flame tests with simultaneous impact and water spray. In contrast, large or complex buildings require cables to withstand higher temperatures and more demanding conditions for up to 120 minutes, ensuring safety remains uncompromised.

Prysmian offers an extensive range of independently tested and certified fire resistant cables. The FP range meets the critical installation and performance criteria, delivering the highest possible quality standard. FP cables manufactured by Prysmian are designed to meet the requirements of the relevant fire tests.

'Standard' fire resistant cables are required to achieve at least 30 minutes circuit integrity when tested in accordance with BS EN 50200 AND also to BS EN 50200 ANNEX E. 'Enhanced' fire resistant cables are required to achieve at least 120 minutes when tested to BS EN 50200 AND also BS 8434-2. What are fire performance (FP) cables used for?

They are specifically designed to continue functioning under extreme conditions, helping to protect lives and property during emergencies.

What is the difference between FP200 Gold and FP PLUS cables?

Both cables meet the requirements of the relevant British Standards and are designed for different applications. In the event of a fire, FP PLUS cables last longer and at higher temperatures compared to FP200 Gold.

FP200: Known as FP200 Gold, is a “Standard” fire resistant cable designed for fire detection, fire alarm and emergency lighting systems in buildings where minimum 30-minute fire resistance is required.
FP PLUS: Designed for “Enhanced” fire resistance, FP PLUS is used in fire alarm and emergency lighting in hospitals and other large and complex buildings. FP PLUS is designed to keep circuit integrity for at least 120 minutes.
