Copper cables for data transmission

Fast and reliable copper cables for data transmission

In today's digital age, the demand for fast and reliable data transmission is more critical than ever. Copper cables, particularly Category 6 and Category 6a, provide a robust solution for network connectivity. These cables are designed to handle high-speed data transfer, making them suitable for a variety of applications from small home networks to expansive corporate environments.

Category 6 cable

Prysmian Category 6 copper cable is commonly known as Cat6, ethernet, network or LAN cable. It has a bandwidth of 250 MHz, enabling data transfer rates of up to 1Gbps over a length of 100m.

  • Small office or domestic networks
  • Large office environments
  • Schools and universities

THE STRUCTURE OF CATEGORY 6 CABLE

Prysmian Cat6 copper cable comprises four twisted pairs of sheathed pure copper wire. The twisting helps minimise electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk, resulting in more reliable data transmission. Each twisted pair carries a different signal, ensuring data integrity over longer distances and in high-density installations.

All Prysmian Cat6 cables available in the UK are unshielded twisted pairs (UTP) to ensure easy installation. Low Smoke Halogen Free and flame-retardant sheath (LSHF) versions are available for improved fire performance.

Prysmian Cat.6 cable is also backwards compatible with Cat5, Cat5e and Cat3 cables, making it ideal for applications where existing networks are being extended. Although it should be noted that when used for this type of application the network will only run at the speed of the device with the lowest specification.

Prysmian Cat6 copper data cable is available through our distribution network throughout the UK.

Category 6a cable

Category 6 Augmented copper cable, or Cat.6A, is an enhanced version standard Cat6 copper cable. It has a significantly improved performance with 500 MHz bandwidth making it capable of supporting data transfer rates of up to 10Gbps at distances of up to 100m.

  • Networks with long cable runs
  • Data centres
  • Futureproofing for future data needs

THE STRUCTURE OF CATEGORY 6A CABLE

Prysmian Cat6a cables incorporate eight copper wires twisted into four pairs, the twists are tighter than standard Cat6 cable, which helps further minimise crosstalk interference.

Prysmian Cat6a cabling is available with various levels of shielding to offer enhanced levels of interference protection:

  • Unshielded Twisted Pairs (U/UTP),
  • Unshielded with Foiled Twisted Pairs (U/FTP), and
  • Outer foil shielding with Foiled Twisted Pairs (F/FTP) for the best protection from interference, particularly in environments with a lot of electronic equipment.

Cat6a cables are also available with a Low Smoke Halogen Free and flame-retardant sheath (LSHF) for applications where specific reactions to fire are important.

Cat6a cables are backwards compatible with Cat6 and Cat5e networks.

Cat6a cable is available to order through distribution.
