We look after your cable from the moment it’s installed

Prysmian has been designing, manufacturing and installing high voltage (HV) and extra high voltage (EHV) cable systems for over 100 years, but our work doesn’t stop there. After the installation is complete and becomes part of your network, we can continue to actively look after your cable systems, and help you ensure they provide the best performance throughout their lifetime.

We have installed and maintained high voltage pressurised fluid filled cable systems, MIND insulated, and Polymeric cable systems since their first introduction into the UK. This level of experience and expertise is rare.

Asset Monitoring & Circuit Testing

Your cable systems are a critical asset, and monitoring them is vital to ensure they perform throughout their lifetime. Partial discharge poses a problem for your network. To tackle this, we can install sensors to detect and locate partial discharge before it becomes an issue. The sensors send data to a constant and permanent monitoring system, giving you peace of mind.

For cables without sensors, we have our innovative PRY-CAM system to monitor the circuit and detect potential faults at an early stage.

Circuit testing plays a significant part in our monitoring and maintenance service. All HV and EHV cable installations need to be commission tested and the test methods we use conform to National Grid Specifications.

Prysmian owns and runs a fleet of mobile HV testing equipment in the UK. Our HV test-set trailers have everything needed to deliver the right combination of current, voltage and frequency. Our HV test teams also have the skills and experience to ensure handover is on time.

Diagnostics, Maintenance & Repairs

The Prysmian ongoing maintenance service can provide continuous monitoring of your cable systems and identify potential issues before they deteriorate. Once a fault has been identified, we can implement a repair programme to deal with the damage and the Prysmian 24/7 helpline is available to help.

Fluid-filled cable systems require a planned maintenance schedule and Prysmian are available to survey your assets and discuss a programme. Some systems have operated for many decades and these long-service assets are valued for their reliability. However, understanding how performance and behaviour is affected over time enables us to find a potential fault before it even happens.
