Connecting the world to lead the energy transition

Linking today’s innovations with tomorrow’s power possibilities

Renewable energy generation is expected to quadruple by 2030. This is a clear demonstration of the international commitment towards decarbonisation and energy transition.

In this rapidly developing climate, Prysmian has a crucial role to play. The company is at the forefront of innovation and adaptation, embracing the new emphasis on renewable energy generation.

Our high voltage power transmission cable systems carry renewable energy across continents, enabling the transition to clean, renewable energy worldwide. Our product innovation allows us to supply ever more cost-effective and sustainable solutions and our cable systems form the backbone of your next-generation power grids. These in turn pave the way for a more efficient, interconnected and environmentally responsible energy ecosystem

Our commitment to the energy transition

Governments and enterprises around the world have set ambitious “net zero” carbon reduction goals with the aim of reducing the immediate threat of climate change and its unpredictable outcomes. Essential to meeting these goals is the transition from the consumption of fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.

Renewable energy sources, however, present new challenges for established networks. Future energy will be generated across multiple locations all producing electricity without the consistency of traditional power stations. This new landscape of energy generation requires efficient, smart, and robust energy transmission and distribution networks.

Interconnectors are increasingly important, allowing for connections between countries and even continents to allow affordable and clean energy to flow across long distances. Such interconnectors play a key role in energy transition: enabling a larger, more integrated, efficient and sustainable electric power transmission system to be established and maintained.

The Prysmian subsea interconnectors are made of new, lighter materials and can be installed deeper under the sea than ever before. Our high-voltage DC (HVDC) interconnectors bring power more efficiently over long distances from where the energy is produced (such as offshore wind farms) into the transmission networks.

Once onshore, our Power Grids products and services support the power transmission and distribution networks that deliver electricity from substations to homes, businesses and services across the nation.

Project excellence and execution

We're breaking new ground in cable projects delivery

Our solid and effective approach to project management is second to none, maximising the capabilities and competencies of our qualified teams and individuals in combination with the Group’s extensive production capacities and installation equipment. We deliver turnkey projects for the construction of underground and submarine power links for high power interconnectors and for offshore wind farms. From shallow waters to depths of up to 3,000 metres, our fleet of cable-laying vessels - Leonardo da Vinci, Barbarossa, Cable Enterprise, Ulisse, Giulio Verne and Monna Lisa (which is set to start commercial operation in early 2025) - allows us to install submarine cables all over the world. We combine both the extensive experience that matters in this sector and the pioneering solutions to realise the submarine connections our customers require.
