Optic Fibre Cables

Leading technical innovation in optical fibre

The development of fibre optic technology: cables that transmit data as pulses of light through a strand of glass, has revolutionised communication and opened the door for the digital world in which we live.

As data applications evolve, the requirement for cable with ever-greater bandwidth increases – with AI being the latest innovation relying on a robust fibre optic infrastructure to deliver on its promise.

Prysmian is right at the heart of this revolution. With dedicated research and development laboratories and fibre plants across the world, Prysmian is a world leading manufacturer of optical fibre, working at the cutting edge of speed and reliability.

We provide the complete solution for digital communication. We design and manufacture glass fibre; we then use the fibres in the manufacture flexible cable solutions for a huge range of applications including pre-terminated cables and structured cabling systems.

These are just a few of our technical innovations:

BendBright

Our bend insensitive fibre. Originally developed in 2006, this ground-breaking fibre reaches a whole new level of miniaturistation, as low as 200 and 180 µm diameter, allowing maximum fibre density in minimal cable size. As its name implies, BendBright maintains low attenuation even at 5-7.5mm bend radii. It’s perfect for use in tight ducts and complex routing such as the FTTH market. Multi-mode options are available for high bandwidth requirements.

Colour Coded 180 µm fibre

All fibres used in cable need to be coloured so that installers can identify each individual fibre and route it accordingly. Thanks to its development of the ColorLock coating for fibre, Prysmian is currently the only manufacturer able to produce colour coded fibres in this miniature format, allowing greater density of fibre in ducts with limited space.

Multimode fibres

MaxCap and WideCap are our multi-mode fibres.  MaxCap bend-insentive multimode fibre is for 40 and 100 Gb/s applications and is defined as quality classes OM2, OM3 and OM4 fibre, providing high bandwidth capability combined with low bending sensitivity. Its wide range of applications include LAN building backbones, Storage Area Networks, Telecom central office interconnects and high capacity data centres.

WideCap is our first multimode fibre optimised for SWDM and delivering 100Gb/s in a range of up to 150m. This fibre meets the performance for classification OM5 and gives a low cost and power efficient solution for data centre networks.

The Prysmian Fibre Optic Division has been providing a world-leading service to the telecoms industry for 30 years. We provide innovative products for a full range of applications, spanning long-haul, metropolitan, access, FTTx, and premises applications.

Our modelling and design expertise, together with our technology and production processes, is reflected in a complete portfolio of four mainstream single-mode optical fibre types:

·         Broadly spread G.652 series

·         Submarine and ultra long-haul G.654 series

·         Innovative long distance G.655/G.656 non-zero dispersion shifted fibres (NZDSF) series

·         The G.657 series – bend-insensitive optical fibres, critical for FTTx rollouts.

The Prysmian multi-mode optical fibres for Datacom, enterprises, and premises cable industries, are based on our Plasma-Activated Chemical Vapour Deposition Process (PCVD). This is acknowledged worldwide as offering the best core-profile accuracy in multi-mode fibres.

The complete portfolio covers the full range of application standards, from OM1 and OM2 optical fibres, right up to high-data-rate OM3 and OM4.

All multi-mode optical fibres produced by Prysmian are coated with DLPC9 coating to significantly reduce microbending. Our products cover Local Access Networks (LANs), data centres and server farms, central offices, and Storage Area Networks (SANs).

DrakaElite is Prysmian's Specialty Fibre suite, dedicated to the specialty market segment. It has a comprehensive product range offering solutions and active and passive components for the medical, marine, oil & gas, and telecoms sectors.

With more than two decades of experience in the field of optical fibre technologies, a unique proprietary process, and an extended patent portfolio, DrakaElite offers an extensive number of solutions that exceed the requirements of your applications or your market.

Prysmian is combining state-of the-art glass technology with advanced coating and buffer technology in an industrialised manner, paving the way towards unprecedented performances and new applications.

FlexRibbon

A flexible ribbon stack design of fibre for dense installations, combining the best attributes of loose fibre and flat ribbons in a bundled offering. FlexRibbon can bend, fold and roll without compromising the fibre alignment. FlexRibbon routes easily into standard trays and the 12 fibre ribbons allow for for mass splicing of all fibres (up to 6,912 in a single cable) simultaneously. This fibre is used in FTTx roll-outs, infrastructure builds and hyperscale data centres.

FlexTube

Loose buffered tubes containing stranded individual fibres that can be single or muti mode. FlexTube combines small diameter with great flexibility – it’s immune to kinking and is easy to strip. Unlike FlexRibbon, splicing is required for individual fibres. FlexTube is most suited to applications requiring flexible routing with limited splicing needs. Typical applications include FTTH, campus networks, access rings, rural broadband.

Scirocco

Ultra lightweight fibre cables using our BendBright single mode fibre technology. Scirocco cables are exceptionally small diameter (5mm – 10mm) while still providing up to 864 fibre count. These cables are designed for the long transmission distances typical of telecommunications sytems and can be blown into existing ductwork, ideal for overlay or upgrade projects where new ducting is not an option.

UC Connect

Our end-to-end structured cabling solution. UC Connect provides complete cable systems for enterprises of all sizes, from single commercial buildings to complex data centre installations.

Verticasa

Connectivity for multi dwelling units. Verticasa is a complete system of cable and connectivity products to bring broadband accessibility into homes. Verticasa includes single mode optical fibre, with the option to include BendBright performance.

Pre-terminated fibre

Our fibre optic cables can all be provided ready to install complete with appropriate terminations. Prysmian can offer a bespoke service for telecoms, commercial enterprise and data centres, turning fibre optic cable into a complete solution.

Our UK technical team is on hand to provide any information needed on the performance of our optical fibre and to give specification advice for any application.  Please contact us on 02381 680800 or use the form below and we will contact you.
