High Voltage Jointing

Unparalleled experience and in-house training for high voltage jointers

Our team of highly skilled jointing specialists provide an essential service for power cable systems at 132kV, 275kV, 400 kV and beyond. The teams support new cable system installations and also repair projects, replacing sections of damaged cable to re-instate vital circuits. Joints are held in stock or manufactured to order for quick turnaround in emergencies affecting your network.

The Prysmian Jointing School at our Eastleigh UK head office is the only training centre of its kind in Europe. We recruit new trainees every year and it takes at least three years before jointers will be fully qualified to work with these high system voltages.

Our HV jointers are taught in-house by our experienced training staff in the use of Prysmian cables and cable accessories, including joints and terminations. They also receive training directly from the individual transmission and distribution network operators, overseen and certified to each organisation’s own requirements.

Modern distribution and transmission cables are increasingly insulated with XLPE material. However, legacy circuits of traditional fluid-filled cables remain in operation today. Prysmian jointers receive expert training on these legacy products, ensuring that modern cables and cable accessories can be integrated into existing systems when required. Prysmian designs and manufacturers cable accessories and network components for MV and HV systems including joints, terminations plus the isocyanate-free JEM Resin for LV and MV Accessories.

Should a circuit fail, the network operator requires an instant response to determine the cause and to initiative a corrective programme as fast as possible. The Prysmian fault-finding teams are on hand 24 hours a day for immediate calls to site and our jointers can be deployed to get the reinstatement programme underway. The process can be completed in weeks if we hold stock of the particular joint required – but may take longer if cable accessories require bespoke design for the existing circuit. Either way, Prysmian teams will carry out the full repair service.
