Prysmian launches Universal Block Terminal
Prysmian Telecommunications introduces the CasaLine Block Terminal (CBT): a pre-connectorised, compact box, easily mounted on the wall or on a pole.
Prysmian Telecommunications introduces the CasaLine Block Terminal (CBT): a pre-connectorised, compact box, easily mounted on the wall or on a pole.
One of the outstanding features is that the CBT does not rely on a proprietary drop or feeder cable. Prysmian’s patented fibre locking system allows Ultra Lightweight Cable (loose Tube) to be utilised on all PIA approved existing overhead infrastructure.
CBT can be used as part of a point to point or PON system, so balanced or unbalanced splitters can be pre-installed within the block, increasing the capacity of the fibres accommodated within its compact size.
CBT comes in three variants – 4 port, 8 port and 12 port. It is supplied as a sealed unit: pre-connecterised multi fibre push (MPO) feeder cable (to be launched Q1 2021) and SC connectors on the drop cable significantly reduce the time needed to install this high-capacity block.
CBT is used both for aerial and underground applications. It is robust and completely weatherproof to the IP68 rating specification. The installation method is exceptionally flexible, catering to a wide range of individual requirements for specific deployment.
CBT is the latest solution from the R&D team based at Prysmian UK’s plant in Bishopstoke, SE England, which is also responsible for the recent Ultra Compact Joint and the ground breaking Karona Overblow installation system. The CBT will be manufactured in England for worldwide distribution.
“Block terminals have traditionally been viewed as an integral part of a proprietary system solution”, summarises Kris Roberts, R&D Manager, Connectivity UK at Prysmian. “We saw the opportunity to provide a product which is not only unrestricted in its application, but gives the customer far more flexibility with their supply chain.”
CBT is available directly from Prysmian or, in the UK, through distributors Comtec, Mills and Wolseley. Significant international demand is already apparent for this flexible solution, which is available from September 2020.
